Rizoma Foundation

building a regenerative future

The ideas currently being explored to solve the multiple crises we are in do not go far enough.

We need to create entirely new economic, political, and social systems, from the bottom up.

The work of creating these systems requires on-the-ground experimentation and collaboration.

We will not escape these crises until we get to work building the society that is to come.

Our mission

The goal of the Rizoma Foundation is to accelerate action-oriented programs to usher in a sustainable future, fast.

We do this through developing a decentralized international network of individuals, organizations and businesses that will help to create resilient local communities around the world.

Our tools

1

We ask questions about sustainable technologies, adoption, and social structures.

2

We develop and test curricula based on experiential, field-based learning.

3

We partner with the most impactful organizations in the world, combining our efforts to accelerate change.

Our timeline

2017: Conceive

With the launch of Rizoma Field School in Colonia, Uruguay, we began to experiment with bottom up social change. Working on hands-on solutions, testing them on the ground, and learning in-context all become critical to the vision of social change.

2020: Build

Taking lessons from Ethnographic field work among subsistence food producers in Chicago, agroecologists in Uruguay, international cohorts of Bioconstruction architects, localists in the United States, and sustainability academics, we began to lay the groundwork of an international network of collaborators working on testing ideas in a decentralized, autonomous and voluntary basis.

2021: Launch

The time is now! The Rizoma Foundation is launched with the mission to accelerate multiple already existing bottom up networks, provide a model for decentralized funding structures, and developing experimental alternatives that promote sustainability, freedom, diversity and health.

Defenseless under the night

Our world in stupor lies;

Yet, dotted everywhere,

Ironic points of light

Flash out wherever the Just

Exchange their messages:

May I, composed like them

Of Eros and of dust,

Beleaguered by the same

Negation and despair,

Show an affirming flame
